Stippling, pen & ink on paper

The Story

She was named after the legendary Michelle Akers.
Michelle is considered one of the best players of all time in international football. In addition to many other accolades, two World Cup titles, and an Olympic gold medal, she was also named Female Player of the Century in 2002.
Throughout her impressive career, Akers went through three reconstructive knee surgeries and several smaller injuries. She also played with a dislocated shoulder in their second World Cup Championship in 1999, caused by a rogue fan in the quarterfinals.
She retired from the game shortly before the 2000 Sydney Summer Olympics due to injuries.
